The primary trailhead to the summit begins at Lake Placid and ascends to provide a breathtaking view of many natural jewels, including the Giant Washbowl. Giant Mountain is a great place for a day-hike, 6-7+ miles RT, moderate to challenging path.
Whiteface Mountain, the fifth-highest peak among 46 High Peaks is a popular destination offering a great summit experience for non-hikers. A road accesses to right below the summit, and from that point, an elevator will bring you to the top. On a clear day, the 360° view from the summit can extend to Vermont, Canada, and New Hampshire.
With countless miles of scenic country roads, occasional stops at local wineries, and a variety of terrain on the many welcoming mountains, all types of cycling are popular in the Adirondacks.
A festive bike town in the Whiteface Region, Wilmington hosts many annual cycling events. It is also a place to visit if you are into competitions, since it hosts a couple of renowned bike races, Wilmington/Whiteface 100K and Whiteface Mountain Uphill Bike Race in June.
Located at the ski resort that hosted the 1980 Olympics Alpine Skiing events, Whiteface Mountain Bike Park is increasing in popularity for downhill mountain biking during the summer. It offers beginning and intermediate terrain as well as expert terrain serviced by Gondola.
